Bridget is a graduate of The Beacon whose journey reflects the long-term impact of Iowa Finance Authority's investment in housing and homelessness solutions. Bridget first came to The Beacon while involved in drug court and facing significant legal barriers. After serving her sentence, she returned to the community and The Beacon was there for her with open arms, providing a safe, supportive environment as she began rebuilding her life.
Through The Beacon’s programming and support, Bridget secured employment and engaged in therapy. When she was ready for the next step, she transitioned into The Beacon Village, a NARR-certified recovery residence funded in part through IFA support. Living at the Village provided Bridget with stability, safety, and independence as she continued her recovery and worked toward long-term goals, including regaining full custody of all four of her children.
She later transitioned out of The Beacon Village into the next stage of her independence, continuing to build stability for herself and her family. Today, she works at The Beacon, giving back to women who are navigating recovery and rebuilding their lives. Bridget’s journey, from incarceration to recovery housing, stable employment, and family reunification, is a powerful example of how IFA’s homelessness program creates meaningful, lasting change.

The Beacon

The Iowa Finance Authority partners with organizations across the state to address housing instability and support Iowans most in need, including The Beacon.

The Beacon is a client-centered community that provides a safe and supportive living environment for adult women in central Iowa who have faced trauma and systemic inequity. These social factors often lead to substance use and involvement with the criminal justice system. The Beacon’s mission is to create a space where women can break this cycle and work toward more fulfilling, productive lives.
