Bringing Opportunity Through Housing

Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA) is a federal program of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development designed to assist persons who have been diagnosed with HIV/AIDS and their families who are homeless or at-risk of homelessness.

Eligibility

  • Diagnosed with HIV or AIDS by a medical professional
  • Gross income of less than 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI)
  • At risk of homelessness

Eligible Forms of Assistance

  • Tenant Based Rental Assistance
  • Short-Term Rent, Mortgage, and Utility Assistance
  • Permanent Housing Placement
  • Supportive Services

How to Access Help

Please note that individuals may not apply directly to the Iowa Finance Authority for assistance. If you believe you may be eligible for HOPWA assistance, please contact one of the five providers in the state.
