Uncovering Energy Efficiency Improvements
The Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) provides federal grant funds for energy audits at multifamily housing properties to promote energy efficiency improvements.
Eligibility
Eligible borrowers include Iowa-based businesses, nonprofits and public entities that own or operate affordable multifamily buildings with 20 or more units and participate in one or more of the following programs administered by the Iowa Finance Authority:
- Section 8
- Low-Income Housing Tax Credit
- HOME Investment Partnerships Program
Qualifying Energy Audit Requirements
- Qualifying energy efficiency audits must:
- Use Home Performance Assessment evaluation criteria from the ENERGY STAR® program.
- Identify and recommend life-cycle cost-effective opportunities to reduce energy consumption.
- Compare energy consumption to that of similar buildings.
- Provide a Home Energy Score — or equivalent, as determined by the Department of Energy.
Funding Details
- Total Funding Available: $210,000
- Application Window: Open until February 1, 2026 or until funds are obligated
- Project Completion Deadline: June 30, 2026
- Cost Share: Participants must provide 50% cost share. Awardees implementing audit-recommended upgrades may be reimbursed for their cost share.
- Eligible upgrades may qualify for 0% interest financing through the Iowa Energy Saving Loan Program.
Application Process
Applications will be funded in the order received until funds are obligated. Selection is based on meeting program requirements.
