Growing up on a farm in small-town Iowa, I never imagined I’d be able to afford a home in Des Moines—especially as a single woman. After college, I was drawn to the city’s opportunities but worried about the cost of living.
Discovering the Iowa Finance Authority’s programs changed everything. Their support not only made the idea of homeownership in Des Moines possible but also turned it into a reality. After just two years of living in the city, I was able to purchase my dream home—a milestone I never thought I’d reach so soon.
Thanks to the Iowa Finance Authority’s grant, I was even able to hold onto some savings to invest in my home. I’ve put that money into updates that not only build equity but also bring a sense of personal enrichment to my home and neighborhood. It’s been amazing to feel like I’m contributing to my community while creating a space I love.
I want others—especially women like me who might not realize what’s possible—to know that with the right resources and support, they can achieve their own version of the Iowa dream.
