Todd and Catherine have lived in their Burlington home for many years, but as both became disabled, the aging 1880 house began to require more than they could physically or financially manage.
The roof was the most urgent concern. Shingles blew off during major storms, and the couple worried the roof might eventually fail. The siding was worn out, the gutters no longer worked, and the windows and doors leaked so badly that Todd had to cover them with foil faced insulation, blocking most natural light. The home was valued too low to qualify for a loan, leaving them with no way to afford the repairs.
Help came when the Neighborhood Center in Burlington connected them with a program supported by the Iowa Finance Authority through the State Housing Trust Fund and administered by the Great River Housing Trust Fund and the Southeast Iowa Regional Planning Commission. After assessing the home, the partners confirmed the need for a new roof and addressed additional critical repairs.
Through IFA’s support and strong local partnerships, the home received a new roof, siding, gutters, windows, and doors, making it safe, energy efficient, and comfortable again. Todd and Catherine can remain safely in the home they love and once again feel proud of it.
