The Preparedness, Innovation and Energy Education (PIEE) program is federally funded and designed to implement innovative strategies to advance energy security, strengthen energy education and reduce energy use.

The PIEE program supports innovative projects that:

  • Increase energy resiliency during natural disaster response or recovery efforts through a combination of skill-building and supplies
  • Advance economic development by improving energy efficiency in commercial and industrial buildings
  • Develop Iowa’s clean energy workforce through energy education

Eligibility

Eligible applicants from Iowa include:

  • Businesses
  • Nonprofits
  • Colleges and universities
  • Tribal councils
  • Local government
  • State agencies 

You may:

  • Apply individually or jointly
  • Include one or more subrecipients

Application Process

  • Pre-application deadline: July 7, 2025
  • Full-application deadline (by invitation only): August 15, 2025
  • Award announcement: November 30, 2025

Each applicant may submit one application as the primary applicant. Project partners or subrecipients can support multiple projects.

Funding Details

  • Total funding available: $1.8 million
  • Grant range: $50,000 – $250,000
