If your community is considering participating in the Certified Local Government program, you have come to the right place. The information in this manual will help your local government benefit from participating in the CLG program. The CLG program has the goal of facilitating a partnership between the state, federal, and local governments to promote preservation efforts. In Iowa there are approximately 90 different governmental entities that participate in the CLG program including counties, cities, and a land use district. Each of these governments has committed to saving historic places for the benefit of future generations. The State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) is a key partner in the CLG program.
