Beginning in February 2027, eligible businesses producing sustainable aviation fuel in Iowa may apply for a production tax credit designed to support investment, innovation and growth in Iowa’s bioeconomy.
Iowa is uniquely positioned to lead the growth of the sustainable aviation fuel industry through its abundant renewable resources, strong agricultural supply chain and long-standing leadership in biofuels production. By leveraging Iowa-grown feedstocks and the state’s robust bioeconomy, the program helps accelerate private investment, expand clean fuel production and support the development of a domestic sustainable aviation fuel market.

- Credit amount: $0.25 per gallon of sustainable aviation fuel produced.
- Maximum annual award: $1 million in tax credits.
- Business cap: An eligible business may receive up to $5 million in total over the life of the program.
- Refundable credit: Tax credits that exceed an eligible business’ tax liability are refundable.
- Production window: Credits are available for sustainable aviation fuel produced from January 1, 2026 through December 31, 2035.
- Applications will be accepted between February 15 – March 15 for sustainable aviation fuel produced in the previous calendar year.

Eligibility
- Businesses must be physically located in Iowa.
- Businesses must be in compliance with all agreements entered into under this program or other programs administered by IEDA, if applicable.
- Credits must be claimed for the tax year in which the eligible business was issued the tax credit.
